Ralsei is not an object?

Hi there. There’s been Deltarune Piano Collections released a few weeks ago, and on the cover, you can see Ralsei, Kris, and Susie in the Dark and Light world projections. Except the Light world one is missing Ralsei. And the background looks like.. Hometown? I can’t say for sure, but it looks like we can spot a few things from here:

  1. Ralsei’s explanation about that every darkner is some kind of object, isn’t 100% clear here, as he’s not shown anywhere on the art.
  2. If the Dark world is a projection of a Light World, but with it’s own feels, sounds, and spacing: why can we still see the piano? And where did from trees come in place? Yes, some items can be seen in the both worlds “as is”, then why is there a piano in the Hometown forest?
  3. It looks like a mix of Field of Hopes and Dreams (which you can’t go back into in any other chapters than 1/2 as far as I remember), the Cyber World (which you can’t go back to in any other chapter than ch. 2), and Castletown for some reason, which doesn’t make any damn sense, if we’re standing in the same Hometown light world forest.

That opens up many questions regarding how does the Dark Worlds actually work, because it isn’t clear here. Any ideas?

Nothing outside of the games is canon, and I’m not too sure Toby told this artist how Ralsei should be shown in the light world reflection. It’s probably just a creative choice.

That being said, Ralsei not actually having a light world counterpart is probably the most compelling theory in my opinion.

It indeed may be a creative choice, or contain some hidden idea or theory, we’ll probably figure it out some time in the future

The cover art is credited to Nise (https://www.materiacollective.com/artist/wraith615), and they did actually post a full version (ie, front and back covers as one continuous image) on their twitter (https://x.com/wraith615_/status/1958320722331525419/photo/1).

Regardless, it’s merch commissioned by Materia Collective and is external to the game, so I wouldn’t assume any “canonicity” of it. Despite that, the concept of Ralsei being in some way a manifestation of the darkness (possibly in a similar way that the titan spawns and titans are) vibes well with me, and it doesn’t run into the logistical issues of “how does he get between dark worlds without us moving anything” and “how does he persist in the dark world after we leave” that him being a physical object tend to run into. Plus, I just like it more, feels like it makes him more of an independent character to not be directly manifest from Kris as if he were the headband (which is the other main contender).

But this would mean we can't (theoretically) put him in out pocket and take him home!

2 is easily explained by an obligatory forest piano.

He’s a figment of Kris’ imagination.

why do you think so? why does Susie, Noelle and other darkners could see him?
he may be an object, just that we don’t see him because of the size

or the whole light world party is drunk and trashed after smoking some shit weed that berdly sold to kris, and the whole game is about kris, susie (and noelle once) tripping while doing random shit in random places, and the dark fountains are smoking blunts, where the roaring is Toriel who’se beating the shit out of all of them, just another theory

what if ralsei is just an embodiment of kris’ memories of asriel

maybe ralsei is just really short in the light world

I like the theory that Ralsei is a representation of true darkness, just straight up the core void of all dark worlds in general. That's why he clearly is a special darkner, us compatible with any dark world, senses “dark presences” and stuff like that.

Y'all theorizing, but consider the possibility that Toby doesn't want us to see his counterpart yet.

This. This right here is the most likely thing here.

If this is true, then what is roaring knight supposed to be? Lol

BUT… BUT I'M ASRIEL!!!

Their aura farming older sibling who wants to get them off of that stuff to watch anime instead?
