[poll] What do you think will affect the ending of the game?

Or alternatively, the last act of the game if there's only a single ending.

  • Whether the Weird Route was taken
  • Whether the Weird Route was cancelled
  • Whether the Sword Route was taken in Chapter 3
  • Whether enemies were defeated with violence
  • Whether the Eggs were collected
  • Whether the Shadow Crystal Bosses were defeated
  • Whether Sans, Onion, and Mettaton were befriended

I believe the ending will be the same but everything you do will make the context of the scene different, whether slightly or majorly

I don’t think these will affect the ending, but for sure the way you get it.

I personally suspect CH6&7 could entirely differ depending on previous choices. Just, the ending itself will be the same. We know NOTHING about those two chapters. It’s just… there are 5 known eggs. 5 known shadow crystals. The sweepstakes weird route page stops in chapter 5.

The shadow crystals have obvious lore implications and can make a pure crystal. They’re also associated with freedom… Weird route changes are likewise obvious. The eggs are “not too important, not too unimportant”. Plus, sparing everyone must do SOMETHING, right?

That’s a really good point to make massive split depending on choices.

There’s something fishy about ch6&7 that means Toby is even LESS willing to mention them than 5.

Either way. Your choices matter because they will affect your path massively. But your choices don’t matter because the end is always the same.

There’s something more important than reaching the end.

It’s the journey. Not the destination.

On the other hand: 6 Lord of the Hammer chapters (5 of which got written) and 6 bookshelves in the Librarby (3 of which are accessible in Chapter 4).

Edit: Okay, nevermind, I can't read (how unsurprising for an UNDERTALE fan). There are 7 Lord of the Hammer chapters, and it's the 7th that wasn't written. The 6th is just never described.

Hmmm, now that I think about it: Chapters 1, 2, and 4 happen on separate days, and Chapter 3 happens on the night between Chapters 2 and 4. There are 2 bookshelves accessible in Chapter 2 and 3 bookshelves in Chapter 4. So it's just 1 new bookshelf per day.

Edit: A table so it's less confusing:

Lord of the Hammer DELTARUNE Day of the week Librarby bookshelf
Chapter 1: The March of the Dark King Chapter 1: The Beginning Thursday
Chapter 2: The City of the Shining Chapter 2: A Cyber's World Friday How To Care For A Human + Book 1 about SOULS
Chapter 3: The Isles of Northernlight Chapter 3: Late Night Saturday
Chapter 4: The Trials of the Holy Hammer Chapter 4: Prophecy Saturday Book about Monster Funerals
Chapter 5: The Field of Pink and Gold Chapter 5 (unreleased) ??? ???
Chapter 6 (never described) Chapter 6 (unreleased) ??? ???
Chapter 7 (unreleased) ??? ???

Y'know, having the book about monster funerals in the Librarby is INSANE foreshadowing.

Three main affectors are going to probably be: the Weird Route, the Super bosses, and the Eggs. The Sword Route might also affect later dialogue with ERAM/nightmare/John mantle/WTF IS HIS NAME??? If it was taken. The eggs might affect later events the least, affect benignly, or maliciously, considering what little context we have. The Super Bosses all being defeated might give us an item needed to defeat some super-mega boss, if my secret ending theory holds true. The weird routes effects are kind of obvious at this point: breaking the prophecy.

Further, the recruits we acquire might aid us in later events; not changing the events, but making the gameplay easier? Befriend some lightners might add context to certain, which wouldn’t have impact like edits do, but would still matter. Canceling the weird route may just revert everything to normal: I think chapter 4 was our last chance to back out.

You mean like how recruits in chapter 2 each contribute like 5 hp to the Thrash Machine?

Yup
