hmm, when I make my cardboard crafts and I need something to stick up straight I usually go to dollar tree and find a wood stick or something, or like a pool noodle and cut it into strips, but the pool noodle ends up being floppy if you don't use a lot of hot glue.
for paint you should always make more than you need, and if your mixing the paint yourself to get the right color you need to write down the exact colors you used so you can find them later, if you don't want the balls to be super heavy you can try making them out of paper, or you can (yet again) go to dollar tree and find a plastic ball there,
Wire is also super helpful, you can get the ones people use for plants which you can probably just ask your local 30 year old man, he prob has some.
Also! the clear tape you get from dollar tree that's smooth doesn't work very well for cosplays, you need to find painters tape or tape that isn't completely smooth so paint sticks to it better.
