nah if you go into the library after beating ch2 and inspect the closet, it has some very very foreshadow-y flavour text.

With your evidence being that a large man could fit inside the closet?
What reason would he have for opening dark fountains? I suppose it could be to find Dess, actually, but still I think it’s hard to say that off of one piece of evidence.
I believe that the story is very centred around escapism, and in my opinion asgore has the most reasons to want to ditch his current life. He’s disgraced, divorced, about to get kicked out of his “house”
I just think makes sense.
My suspicion also stems from the fact that Toby mentioned that in his scrapped intro for the game, the heroes would run up some stairs, and the knight would turn to face them.
I believe this automatically removes Kris as a possibility for one thing, and I believe that Toby scrapped it because everybody knows the silhouette of asgore.

The intro was going to be anime-esque. If you’ve watched enough anime, you’ll have seen at least some intros where you see multiple forms of the same character on the screen at once.

It is not at all implausible that we’d see Kris and Kris as the Knight in the same room in an intro animatic.
Now, I’m not a Kris Knight believer myself (I’m with the idea that the Knight is related to Gaster and Gaster’s playing both sides, Entry 17 implies HE is responsible for the fountains, because “Darkness keeps growing” very likely refers to dark fountains), but Kris Knight is not completely off the table like some would suggest.
Also Kris is definitely suspicious and knows more than they let on. They plugged in the TV between Chapter 1 and Chapter 2, before Queen revealed anyone could make a Dark Fountain, so they didn’t learn from Queen or Berdly how to do it. They knew ahead of time.
Also I’m for there being two Knights, like in chess. Kris is the second Knight because of Chapter 2’s ending.
I expect Tenna to directly call Kris the Knight at some point because Kris made that fountain. (And then maybe they get banned from Castle Town which is why there’s a long stretch of Light World content that would make a lack of a save point inconvenient.) And then either Chapter 4 or Chapter 5 reveals the original Knight (exonerating Kris). I can also see a gag where Susie encourages Kris to make another fountain later and Ralsei scolds her for even suggesting that. (I think Susie would find what Kris did in the Chapter 2 ending really cool when Tenna mentions it)
“Roaring Knight” and “The Knight” are likely two separate entities. I’d like to think it’s Wing Gaster (the royal scientist) and Kris, but something tells me Gaster is too obvious, and that Toby is pulling a fast one on us with Kris stabbing the floor. (Maybe it’s just a gas tank?)
I think “The Knight” will be someone we expect, and the “Roaring Knight” will be the real one, and will be a twist villain (although the only real candidates for “twist villain” are Rouxls and Ralsei).
The soul is likely to play some role, though.

i find it likely that that was all kris’ plan originally, but then once he found out how to make a dark fountain, he figured he’d surprise susie with another adventure
