I'm just going to copy what I said in the wiki Discord about this a while ago.

Theory: (that probably isn't true but is cool) The "GUARDIAN" is the Titan; it's actually guarding the world from the roaring. Titans appear when too many fountains are open, not to destroy the world, but to stop whoever's making all the fountains.

Titans are "the fear of the dark," and fear is a biological system designed to keep you from doing something. The living embodiment of that fear will stop you, violently, at all costs.

Why have we just forgotten this
Plus, as potential extra evidence that could go multiple ways:
The titan may of attacked the fun gang since both Susie and Kris have made fountains and Kris may have potentially made more before we were here, having the Titan attack them first since that’s a bigger amount of fountains…
(Or maybe the knight had to leave so the Titan wouldn’t target them first since perhaps they made the most dark fountains.)
