Given the context of the situation where the dialogue appears, wouldn't it make more sense to view it as a joke by Kris rather than their attempts to seem normal? This is also time they reference normality and in the game clearly enjoy doing unhinged stuff, especially with Susie in several cutscenes in Chapter 4.
