he’s been in both dark worlds and light worlds, and he’s the only background character we’ve actually seen do this
he was in the computer lab the day before the cyber dark world was made
he appears to keep you from grabbing the egg in chapter 2, which may serve as a tool against him for all we know
the creation of dark fountains could be used as an allegory for creating games, or bringing games to life. annoying dog has been used as an allegory for Toby himself multiple times, so this isn’t as far-fetched a possibility as it might seem
and for those like me who think the knight will have a boss fight in the future, and that the Annoying Dog would not be powerful enough to serve as a boss, may I introduce you to:
The Legendary Artifact from Undertale.
we’ve seen evidence of Deltarune leaking into Undertale before, such as the Suzy dialogue, entry no. 77 being referenced multiple times across both games, and of course the possibility of UT sans coming from Deltarune. So to think the Legendary Artifact could have been carried over by Annoying Dog looks much less unrealistic than it did around the start of making this joke theory.
In other words, that dog is the knight trust
so this isn’t as far-fetched a possibility as it might seem

Fetched like dog pun. I actually had the idea of the Annoying Dog being the final boss of Snowgrave Route for a similar reason.
I’ve actually considered the dog as a serious candidate… since it’d make a very good joke, and no, it’s not unlike Toby to do this (take Sans Undertale. Also in the anniversary livestream Toby gets a flaming sword because of when one of the Fangamers mentioned “astral projection” which was one of the things they weren’t allowed to mention on the stream [Turns out that’s what’s going on in the “Hey, wonder how Susie is doing?” thing in Chapter 1] )
The only reason why I don’t think it’s the dog is because of the scrapped into cutscene. Because, like… the silhouette would obviously show the dog. In that intro. Which would ruin the subversion. I don’t think Toby would’ve even considered the animated intro if the dog was the Knight.
The only reason to make the dog the Knight is as a big twist, like making Sans the final Boss of No Mercy. So the intro cutscene would have never even been thought up.
You know Deltarune theorists are cooked when the dog is a serious candidate for the Knight😭
